For people with Tourette's Syndrome, their body seems to be another spiritual object, which is not controlled by their brain. They need to find a way to balance with themselves, and the most important way to do that is to accept themselves.
In this work I have virtualized a world where each person's life is bound to a bird.
In this virtual world, there is a bird named "Tuo Tuo", which is born with a love of freedom and is more rebellious than other birds. Therefore, I show the struggle between this rebellious bird and possessive human beings by expressing the struggle between Tourette's syndrome patients and their bodies. At the end of the story, the owner of Tuo Tuo chooses to let it fly free, a decision that allows Tou Tou to feel respected and choose to build a new relationship with its owner.
I hope that this project allows more people to understand the struggles that people with Tourette's have in society and that it can help them to be justly accepted by that society.
This is also my first attempt at illustrating a story, and I believe that the function of illustration can be very helpful when it comes to medical illnesses. Illustrations can alleviate the indifference of plain text to a certain extent, which can make more people more accepting of unpopular medical expertise.
