Brief

光是沒有型態,是柔軟且放射狀的。這啟發我去思考能不能讓光線的狀態更加直觀地被看見。光線的變亮、變暗就如同氣球膨脹及收縮,將兩者相互結合,藉由氣球膨脹會改變材質厚度、透光度、表面顏色的特性,達到「透過改變介質以調節燈光亮度及顏色」的目的。

The essence of light is formless, it is soft and radiates outward. This inspired me to contemplate whether the state of light could be visualized more intuitively. Brightening and dimming light is akin to the inflation and deflation of a balloon. By merging the two, inflating the balloon alters the characteristics of material thickness, translucency, and surface color. This achieves the objective of "adjusting light brightness and color by altering the medium."
Users can inflate the balloon containing the light tube using a switch. Throughout this process, in addition to the actual increase in brightness, they can also visually perceive the expansion and contraction of the light volume.
Prototyping

To achieve the effect of altering light through the thickness of a balloon, it is necessary to place the light source inside the balloon. During this process, considerations must be made regarding how to route both the electrical and inflation lines out of the balloon while maintaining an airtight seal. Additionally, the method for users to replace the balloon lampshade must also be considered. I have designed an inflatable lamp base that integrates with the balloon opening via a sealing mechanism. The light tube fits into the base, and the sealing mechanism at the balloon opening inserts into corresponding grooves on the base. When in use, inflation is achieved through the inflation tube connected to the lamp base.
