The legend of The Guardian of the Rio Grande tells us how she is both the origin and protector of the ancestral waters, whose currents are the very essence of life. From her enchanted jug, flows the substance of life, the river that nourishes the fields and feeds the souls it touches. With her ancestral wisdom, The Guardian guides the river's waters, ensuring that each drop is a gift of life to all nature and its creatures. Her presence is the promise of eternity, a sacred bond between earth and sky, where magic and vitality intertwine in endless harmony 🪄♾️
I was invited to create this mural in San Juan Bautista Cuicatlán, Oaxaca, inspired by the time I spent exploring the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve. Although this area is full of magic and beauty, I was especially captivated by the Rio Grande, its majesty, its importance to the community, and the way everything around it flourishes with life. All living creatures, from tiny cyanobacteria to the largest mammals... need water to survive. Life arises wherever there is water, and without water, life as we know it would not exist. I wanted to leave a piece that honored this sacred substance and the spirit of the river, as it truly is the reason for our existence.

La leyenda de La Guardiana del Río Grande nos cuenta cómo ella es tanto el origen como la protectora de las aguas ancestrales, cuyas corrientes son la esencia misma de la vida. Desde su cántaro encantado, fluye la sustancia de la vida, el río que nutre los campos y alimenta las almas que toca. Con su sabiduría ancestral, La Guardiana guía las aguas del río, asegurando que cada gota sea un regalo de vida para toda la naturaleza y sus criaturas. Su presencia es la promesa de la eternidad, un lazo sagrado entre la tierra y el cielo, donde la magia y la vitalidad se entrelazan en una armonía sin fin 🪄♾️
Fui invitada a crear este mural en San Juan Bautista Cuicatlán, Oaxaca, inspirado por el tiempo que pasé conociendo la Reserva de la Biosfera Tehuacán-Cuicatlán. Aunque esta zona está llena de magia y belleza, me cautivó especialmente el Río Grande, su majestuosidad, su importancia para la comunidad y la forma en que todo a su alrededor florece con vida. Todas las criaturas vivientes, desde las diminutas cianobacterias hasta los mamíferos más grandes..necesitan agua para sobrevivir. La vida surge dondequiera que hay agua y sin agua, la vida tal como la conocemos no existiría. Quise dejar una pieza que honrara esta sustancia sagrada y el espíritu del río, ya que verdaderamente es la razón de nuestra existencia.
