Parking Day Campaign

Parking Day is a annual open-source global event where citizens, artists and activists
collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into Parking Day installations.
This campaign encourages people to reconnect with open city spaces and see the possibility of city
space. This campaign aims to re-prioritise creative thinking in the city space, by highlighting and
showcasing the possibilities of the space dotted all over our cities. We are challenging you, the citizen,
to unlock the creative potential of the cities parking spaces.

Paying the meter of a parking space enables you to lease the precious space on a short-term basis. The project is to explore the range of possible activities for this lease. The mission is to call attention to the need for more urban open space. It’s time to rethink the way streets are used and to re-imagine the possibilities of the urban landscape. On September 19th, Dublin city center will be part of this global grassroots movement, Parking Day.

The Parking Day website is a web archive of past and future Parking Day installations. Users can upload and share their own experience of Parking Dayor simply browse what others have done, by category, imagesor location. The website acts as a platform to web links and personal videos shared by Parking Day participants worldwide. It is this lingering sense of togetherness that participants experience within the world of Parking Day and these social orientated movements. This is where the participants can go to continue the conversation about space in the city, creating an outgoing dialogue about this perspective.
