Karima
Logo & Pattern design
Karima is the new project of mine. It’s about creating a new brand from zero. First we think about the brand and strategically decide on its personality . It’s a software development and company. They are proud of being South African and they want to be the leader in technology. My first idea was using brackets and punctuations to write KARIMA name and have a logo type that way. Because these guys are mostly programmers and what they do is coding. You know coding is all about this punctuations and brackets. Since they are living in this world I thought it may be a good idea. However I didn’t like it much. There was something missing. I tried many variations to make it more readable. But the more I make it readable, the more it becomes like a normal type. It started to look like a font instead of coding signs. So changed my mind and move on to second stage.
My solution was to write Karima with full of punctuations no matter how readable it is. I decided to use it as a symbol. Then I added a small Karima type to logo. That’s better then the first try. Then I thought this logo can be useable with only K letter. 2 different ways to use depending on space you have. In terms of social media, they can go with the small one if you ask me. It becomes something useable. I liked that. Then I wanted to try different things instead of coding world.

Then I remembered the very first computers. The ones which were working with cards to describe 0 and 1. Since all the datas are basically zeros and ones. I wanted to create a logo which symbolizes this computer generated world. It’s like ons and offs. It’s like zeros and ones. It’s like pixels. When I created the K, I colored it just the way South African flag is. Because they are proud to be South African and they could be happy to show it in their logo. I also added a thin line before the K letter as a cursor just like in the computer world. A cursor ready to type codes. It also helped me to polish that flag feeling I have for the logo.

After that I came up with a pixelate world like colorful pixels creating a dialogue box which is saying K and becomes a logo. I thought we can use this pixelate world in many places on branding. For the website and even in the print works. It can help us a lot to make things look cool and useable as well.
