We got to work with natural material like mud and bamboo and work with constructing functional forms which have an elegant aesthetic design value to it as well.
As a textile student, taking up Design Earth was a positive challenge. In terms of trying to rope in my specializing field into my project through the work I do. But it’s more than that. Cutting, splitting and bending bamboo is something i had never tried or done, but learning how to do it adding it as a skill really motivates you to learn more. During this design earth semester, our primary client owned a farm and required we make coups for his chicken cage, so the chickens could use it to lay eggs. Besides working in the farm, we also travelled for workshops to different colleges and Romulous Whitakers Farm in Chengalpet. At Roms farm, we built him an earth oven with a leopard perched on top of it. We also designed and made an entire wall for one of the storage barns in our clients farm.
