Experience of Curiosity

This project is the culmination of my work at the Main Design Project (MDP) level at the University of Moratuwa. It focuses on ecological succession and presents a solution for marine plastic waste. Through my project, I have developed an eco-friendly method for disposing of plastic waste, aiming to address environmental concerns in a sustainable manner.
There are some special people who are in search for the places to feel isolated from the world and get away from their busy lifestyle  for a while to divulge in the calmness of mother nature. This project aims on that user category through a moving experience by utilizing the Landscape and the eco-culture at Waligama railway station and its surrounding.
This nature-based landscape is to be created in weligama railway station and the surrounding catchment area in Weligama municipal council of Matara district in the Southern province. The polwathu river is located around 248m from the weligama station which  already attracts the attention of the tourists due to ecological and environmental values.
However, the mangrove forests in the area are being damaged as a result the unnecessary human activities surrounding the area. Thus, this project can be used as a landscape architectural solution to mitigate the negative impact towards the catchment by increasing the awareness of population on the value and necessity of mangroves.
Polwathu river’s catchment has a huge potential on being a nature-based learning landscape due to the mesmerizing surroundings around water front. This surrounding is used in this project to provide opportunities to merge with nature with environmental awareness for the user while preserving the nature with minimal human impact.
