The Hero project is the solution to the epidemic of the waste created by single-use electronics. Hero's mission was to create a way to not only find a way to reuse them up to 50x more, but to also safely recycle those devices once they've reached their terminal life.
Hero reached out to Verken because they were applying for a grant that would give them a significantly large amount of funding to achieve this goal. They had won the grant, but as the last stage of securing the money, they needed to create a 90-second video that presented the problem, showed the solution, and how they were able to execute it if they had the chance to.
Given the brief, Verken presented 3 different stylistic directions on how this could take shape. Since we had designed Hero's brand identity a couple of years earlier, we knew the brand in and out and created each of these directions to maintain on-brand. Once a direction was chosen, we moved straight into pre-production detailing how we were going to piece this project.
Since this video was fairly animation-heavy, as soon as the visual direction was locked in we drawing up frame thumbnails then made those digital by designing fully-rendered storyboards. After getting these storyboards approved, we started animating them so that on the shoot day we could focus on the live action side of the video and getting that edited and put together as soon as possible. We joined these two different parts together and massaged them until they felt like a seamless fit telling the mission of the brand in a bright and captivating way!

After submitting the video to the Department of Energy, Hero has now received the full promised funding and can now dive into making this program accessible to all ultimately making Earth a little cleaner, more sustainable planet.
