I don't know how to say this without being too blunt, but it just seems to me people in general ( not all, but most) are two faced. Not two faced in a ' nasty ' context, but more like they put on a facade to the outside world. In order  for them to protect their inner insecureties, they pretend to be someone they are not.

I specificly put no one behind the mask to give the notion, that the person is nothing without their mask; their outer shell that protects their true form from scrutiny.
The cloth held between the mask and the hand signifies the maintaining of the mask and how fragile it is, causing the owner to handle with care. And if you have noticed, I over exaggerated the hand with age. I did this to give a sense of the work being put into maintaining the mask.
The mask is cared for more than the actual owner of it.

When I did this drawing, I had no intention of giving an explanation for why it had been created or what inspired it.
Only after observing the drawing, once it was done, did I see it's meaning.
I generaly don't like to give discriptive and deep essays on my work, I prefer for the viewer to interpret their own conclusion of the piece.
But, I felt this picture strongly signified the general young adult of today, moving me to not leave this drawing unexplained.
