HYPOTHETICAL CSR CAMPAIGN
Under Grad Year III Project
While researching for brands that conduct CSR activities, I came across ‘Two Brothers’, which is
an organic farming brand founded by two brothers who quit their jobs to tend to their family
farms and develop it into a flourishing world of organic and cruelty-free business where the
farmers also have their share in the profits and are not exploited. Their primary focus is providing
organic products to consumers while looking out for the welfare of their farmers. Their brand
philosophy motivated me to search more about women farmers and their hardships, which often
go unnoticed.

For instance, in the samba crop season, a male agriculture labourer in Thanjavur,
Tamil Nadu, gets paid a daily wage of Rs 500 to Rs 600 a day, but a woman farm labourer is paid
just Rs 200 to Rs 400 a day. In states such as Bihar, it is much lower for women agri workers.
Men and women farmers come from gendered experiences and face different gender
constraints and opportunities, and this needs to be reflected in government schemes. For
instance, access to information, control over time, mobility, and even money may be much less
among women farmers. I wanted to shed light on this issue while highlighting the areas in which
women farmers are denied equal opportunities and the obvious pay gap difference.

‘Two Brothers' will provide more schemes specifically centred towards women farmers and publicise
this social issue so that it will gain more exposure and other companies will follow accordingly in
the empowerment of not just women farmers, but women in their workplace too.
