Process
For this experiment, I had to use only letters, or at least, type, to achieve different styles. With these, I always started out unsure about the outcome; it's mostly just flat type. But then it all comes together in the filter stage. Suddenly, these bland, artificial looking letters become vibrant, tangible, and full of style.
Something to keep in mind when using the filter gallery is to save your filter combinations. I didn't save them when I first started, which means if I ever wanted to recreate these filters, I would have to start all over again. The only way to save them in photoshop is to convert your layer to a "smart layer"; that way, it will keep the filter combos as a part of the smart layer effect stack.
