Es 1973 y un grupo de jóvenes se dirige a un concierto de Lynyrd Skynyrd en Dallas por las carreteras de Texas. En el camino encuentran a una joven que camina a un costado de la carretera y la recogen. En el vehículo la joven se dispara con un revólver, muriendo al instante. El grupo contacta con el sheriff para informarle del caso, pero tarda algunas horas en llegar hacia donde estaban ellos. Dos de los jóvenes encuentran una casa donde vivía una familia que apoyaba el extraño comportamiento de uno de los hijos, quien torturaba, mutilaba y usaba la piel de sus víctimas como máscara. Uno a uno van cayendo por los miembros de esta familia, hasta que queda sólo una sobreviviente, Erin Hardesty, que hiere al asesino apodado Leatherface, toma a un bebé raptado por la familia, mata al Sheriff y escapa del pueblo.

Al final, después que Erin escapa, se muestra un video en las noticias en donde dos policías revisan la casa de los Hewitt pero son atacados y asesinados por Leatherface. Mientras se muestran unas imágenes de Leatherface, un narrador dice que son las únicas imágenes del asesino, y agrega que el caso de Leatherface sigue pendiente.

It is 1973 and a group of young people are heading to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in Dallas on the highways of Texas. On the way they find a young woman walking on the side of the road and pick her up. In the vehicle the young woman shoots herself with a revolver, dying instantly. The group contacts the sheriff to inform him of the case, but it takes a few hours for him to arrive at their location. Two of the young men find a house where a family lived that supported the strange behavior of one of the sons, who tortured, mutilated and used the skin of his victims as a mask. One by one they fall for the members of this family, until there is only one survivor left, Erin Hardesty, who wounds the killer nicknamed Leatherface, takes a baby kidnapped by the family, kills the Sheriff and escapes the town.

In the end, after Erin escapes, a video is shown on the news where two policemen search the Hewitt home but are attacked and killed by Leatherface. As some footage of Leatherface is shown, a narrator says that these are the only images of the killer, and adds that Leatherface's case is still pending.
