This project consisted in making a character based on a popular show's art-syle. For this challenge, I picked Gravity Falls
First, I had to study the craft. Get in the mind of the original artists... The genesis of it all..
... Which basically consisted in lot's of fanart sketches. Once I felt I had an okay grip on the style though, I started to experiment.
While I had a lot of ideas that I liked, one in specific stood out to me: the idea of a crazed navy general that would be the antagonist of a hypothetical Gravity Falls 2.
And so I had my-

Oh, wait, lemme clean those smudges..
There we go! As I was saying, now I had my final concept for a Gravity Falls-Style character! The proportions were something I could not very easily decide on, and there was some simplifying to be done if I wanted to animate him, but this design was enough to start working.
First, I set out to make a walk cycle. But not just any boring old walk cycle, I gotta give it some emotion!
...Admittedly, it's my first walk cycle ever, but I wanted him to look angry, since its an emotion I feel you'd see him express a lot in the show.
Next, I needed a turn-around! This one took a little longer than anticipated, but overall, I'm very proud of it.
Here, I applied all the simplifications I was saying he'd need.
And that's how you make an animation-ready character! It was a fun challenge, and I'd like to do it again for a different show sometime...
Thanks for reading!
