Luxury Community Southern Shores Brings Surfing to Utah

Utah residents who enjoy surfing must travel east or west. However, the luxury community of Southern Shores seeks to bring surfing to the state.

Southern Shores, by Immaculate Homes, is a private surfing community in Hurricane Valley, 20 miles east of St. George. Jason Christensen, Immaculate Homes president, said in a June 2023 Salt Lake Tribune article that the community will be a first in Utah and have the second-largest standing surf wave in the US with new surf wave technology in its UNIT Surf Pool.

The technology in the UNIT Surf Pool makes it possible to create a perfect standing wave. Further, the technology allows the surfer to use boards with fins, which enables them to improve their skills and become better ocean surfers.

Manufactured in Germany, the pool is 52 feet wide, one of the widest in the country and one of the most advanced. Additionally, the wave pool is also water, energy, and cost-efficient. The water recirculates and is less expensive than running a boat for an hour.

The community will house 56 luxury homes. It contains three lakes, with the main boat lake set aside for waterskiing, wakeboarding, and wake skiing. Individuals can use the surf lake for surfing, swimming, and paddleboarding. The cable lake allows for taking wakeboarders over ramps, floating rails, and other obstacles.
