The process of creating the illustration Dragon

The process of creating the illustration Dragon Peach Fuzz
I decided to make this illustration right away on the iPad. Only because there was no time to sketch in a notebook. I wanted to make a wriggling dragon with numbers and an inscription. I looked at several options to write: “year of the dragon” or “2024”, but settled on 2024. I thought this was a more concise solution.

I really like to make sketches not on a white sheet, but on colored, pastel backgrounds, because the fear of a white sheet (yes, I also have it with every new project) fades a little with this technique. And I also like the option of working out a sketch not with black or gray, but with colored lines, which is also more fun and less boring. This gives the sketch, from the very beginning, a certain vibe, a unique mood. But it was this drawing that I started sketching on a white background. And this also happens.

Having placed the appropriate numbers on the dragon, I began to work out in more detail the silhouette, placement of paws and claws, whiskers and the design of the face of my cute monster.
After I finished this stage of the drawing, I then began to work out each element of the dragon in as much detail as possible. And after that I started choosing colors. That's when I got the idea to make it not in traditional colors, but in this year's Panton colors. The idea seemed extremely successful and intricate to me.
Clean line.
The next step was the final drawing of the line in this work.

Color.
Then I started choosing colors that would look the coolest with peach. It is heavenly turquoise, pink, orange, burgundy. After the main colors have been applied to the dragon and the entire composition, I proceed to the finishing stage - the spray texture. This is the most delicious and interesting part for me now.

And of course, throughout all the stages of drawing, I was haunted by a perfectionistic obsession - to change everything and start over, redraw and change again. But I stopped myself and persuaded myself to leave the dragon the way he goes, the way he turns out.
Because just like the process, the result at the moment is also important.

As a smart person in my circle said: “I will have a unique opportunity to draw a dragon in a year or two and see the difference in the growth and development of my style.” And only this thought gave me the opportunity to complete the illustration and release a wild, sweet dragon into the social world.
