A zine about femininity

Filters on Femininity explores the multitude of ways that women contort and contrive themselves in a male coded world- inter-sectionally, cross culturally, and historically. With integral insight from J.W. Rettberg’s theory of ‘filters’, and key points from Greyson Perry’s ‘Descent of Man’, this zine is informed by the performativity of gender as being composed of multiple layers and masks – especially inflicted upon women.
Considering the covert, yet often violent, ways that the Male Gaze manifests- Filters on Femininity is an exercise in undoing patriarchal conditioning through directly confronting its impact, while experimenting with the Female Gaze.
Without relief from the pressure of the patriarchy, this zine seeks to imagine a utopia where femininity can flourish, for girls’ sake. Asking: Who is a girl without Man to define her? Who is a girl in the untouched expanses of her inner universe? Who is a girl in the infinite space of her imagined Utopia?
