"The Last" Poster Series

For this school project I was tasked with creating two posters based on a song of my choice. The first poster focuses on a logotype that symbolizes the definition of the song title. The second poster incorporates type and imagery to support the meaning of the song. I chose "The Last" by Denzel Curry which is about his experiences of survival, violence and the role of religion in modern society.
I begun with the logotype by exploring different ways to visually represent the meaning of the word "last," and solution was to emphasize the last letter of the word. From there, I begun to incorporate the theme of religion into the logo.
After deciding on a logo, I begun to sketch different poster layouts. Part of the design brief for this project required that we use a post-modern grid derived from the logotype. I mainly used the cross of the "T" for my grid system, as that is the most defining aspect of the logo.
I then refined those sketches and added color and graphics.
In the final design solution, I integrated the themes of survival, violence and religion with the logo and lyrics with the dripping blood graphic. I also used the typographical style of a bible for the body text to further the theme of religion.
I begun to work on the second by choosing three different image options and exploring different layout options.
Next I chose an image and refined three layouts.
In my final design, I create a cross with the negative space of the body text that highlights the lonely, walking man. I also repeat the red coloring from the first poster, connecting the words "prey" and "sinnin'"
