Vela - Wind, waves and weather app

Vela - A wind, waves and weather app
I started my UX design journey with a CareerFoundry course after my decision for a career change. My first project was to create an app from scratch. I decided to cerate Vela, a wind and weather app.

Objective

Provide intuitively designed and easy to understand wind, wave, and weather
reports, forecasts and statistics for sailors, surfers, divers and any other
water sport aficionado.

Problem statement

The user needs a way to get reliable and understandable information in a well arranged
format, because the user wants a save and joyful experience in or on the water.
We will know this to be true when we see that the app has a good reputation amongst water sport persons and is known for its reliability and great community.

User personas and user flows

Based on different research techniques like a competitor analyses and interviews I created three different user personas and different user flows. In the next pictures you meet two of my personas, Chris and Katharina.

From that point I started the design of the app. I created low fidelity wireframes, made many changes during the process and with the help of methods like card sorting, user testings and preference tests I could design mid and high fidelity prototypes. Underneath you can see examples for the progress for the onboarding and the weather overview screens.
The final mockups and a clickable prototype will be added soon to this page, when the final design is certain.
