Em celebração ao Dia Internacional das Mulheres, a União das Ilustradoras Brasileiras (UIB) tem o prazer de apresentar o projeto "Unidas na Diversidade: um álbum ilustrado sobre mulheres poderosas". No formato de um lindíssimo álbum de figurinhas, foram homenageadas mais de 30 brasileiras que inovaram, transformaram e ressignificaram o lugar da mulher no nosso país.

In celebration of International Women's Day, the "União das Ilustradoras Brasileiras" (UIB) is pleased to present the project "United in Diversity: an illustrated album about powerful women". In the format of a beautiful sticker album, we have honored more than 30 Brazilian women who have innovated, transformed and given new meaning to the role of women in our country.

Ao todo, foram selecionadas 32 mulheres brasileiras, sendo um conjunto de 4 escolhidas em 8 eixos temáticos: Artes Visuais, Ciências, Esporte, Figuras Históricas, Literatura, Música, Política e Televisão. O projeto colaborativo contou com a participação de 28 ilustradoras e cada uma contribuiu com a elaboração das figurinhas de acordo com seu próprio estilo artístico. Afinal, com homenageadas tão diversas, nada mais justo do que representá-las com os mais variados estilos de trabalho que temos disponíveis em nossa comunidade.
Então… venha apreciar o resultado final desta colaboração e conhecer um pouco mais sobre cada uma das mulheres prestigiadas.

Overall, 32 women were selected, of which 4 were chosen from 8 thematic areas: Visual Arts, Science, Sports, Historical Figures, Literature, Music, Politics and Television.
The collaborative project involved 28 illustrators, each of whom contributed to the design of the stickers according to their own artistic style. After all, with such diverse honorees, nothing could be more fitting than representing them with the most varied styles of work we have in our community.
So... come and enjoy the end result of this collaboration and get to know a little more about each of the women featured.
It's time to put our stickers together!

Arissana Pataxó

PAINTER - TEACHER - CURATOR - ACTIVIST
A Visual Artist, she addresses indigenous issues in the contemporary world through various pictorial techniques. As well as working in the Pataxó village, she also carries out art education activities and produces teaching materials for other indigenous peoples.

Laerte Coutinho

POLITICAL CARTOONIST - ACTIVIST - JOURNALIST - SCREENWRITER
Besides being a political cartoonist and screenwriter, she is a symbol of the trans movement in Brazil and co-founder of the Brazilian Transgender Association (ABRAT). Her life has been the subject of documentaries and short films, and she has also won awards for her work.

Maria Auxiliadora

PAINTER - EMBROIDERER - ARTISAN
A self-taught painter from a humble background, she has brought originality and innovation to her paintings. From orishas to family celebrations, she portrayed the intimate Afro-Brazilian culture and became a worldwide reference.

Tarsila do Amaral

PAINTER - DESIGNER - ILLUSTRATOR - CHRONICLER
One of the most recognized Brazilian artists, she took part in the first stage of the Brazilian modernist movement at the beginning of the 20th century. She portrayed typically Brazilian themes, innovating in the colors and shapes of her works. Her most famous painting is "Abaporu" (1928).

Francy Baniwa

ANTHROPOLOGIST - PHOTOGRAPHER - RESEARCHER - ACTIVIST - PIONEER
Anthropologist, photographer and researcher of the Baniwa people. The first indigenous Brazilian woman to publish an anthropology book, she obtained her master's degree at the age of 37 and is now a doctoral candidate at the National Museum, where she coordinates various projects.

Jaqueline Goes

BIOMEDICAL - RESEARCHER - TEACHER - LECTURER
PhD in Human and Experimental Pathology. She was part of the team that mapped the first genomes of the new coronavirus within 48 hours of the first recorded case in Brazil, while other countries took an average of 15 days.

Nise da Silveira

DOCTOR - PSYCHIATRIST - RESEARCHER - ACTIVIST
A doctor and psychiatrist, Nise revolutionized the treatment of mental illness in Brazil by employing therapeutic methods based on art and respect, as opposed to traditional aggressive and medicated treatments.

Vivian Miranda

ASTROPHYSICIST - TEACHER - RESEARCHER - PIONEER
Vivian Miranda, PhD, pioneer as the first transsexual with a post-doctorate in astrophysics at the University of Arizona. She participates in a project with NASA and teaches at Stony Brook University. Her constant fight for rights is inspiring.

Carol Santiago

PARALYMPIC SWIMMER - MULTIMEDALIST - WORLD CHAMPION
Brazil's most successful Paralympic swimmer, she was born with reduced vision. She is a multimedalist who holds the world record for the 50m freestyle and has become one of today's greatest inspirations in sport.

Maria Esther Bueno

TENNIS PLAYER - MULTIMEDALIST - WORLD CHAMPION
Brazilian tennis player who was active between the 1950s and 1970s. She won 589 international titles during her career and is considered the greatest Brazilian tennis player of all time, among both men and women.

With unparalleled talent and unwavering courage, Marta doesn't just play soccer; she leads and inspires a revolution, paving the way and leading generations of future female stars into the world of sports.

JUDOKA - OLYMPIC ATHLETE - MULTIMEDALIST - WORLD CHAMPION
The only Brazilian judoka to hold the title of Olympic world champion. She made history in her home town by winning Brazil's first gold medal at the Rio Olympics.

Clara Camarão

INDIGENOUS WARRIOR - ACTIVIST - PIONEER
One of Brazil's first female warriors. She fought and led female troops against Dutch invasions. Her name is in the Book of Heroes and Heroines of the Homeland, making her a symbol of resistance and bravery.

Hipólita Jacinta Teixeira de Melo

INCONFIDENTE FROM MINAS GERAIS - ACTIVIST She was the first woman to be recognized as a major figure in the inconfidência mineira. With her fearless and intellectual personality, she claimed her place in the fight against the execution of the derrama and Portuguese rule.

FISHERWOMAN - SHELLFISH GATHERER - ACTIVIST
She was a Brazilian heroine in the fight against the Portuguese forces in 1823, during the Independence of Bahia. Fearless, she led a group of women who faced the enemy with courage, leaving a legacy of resistance and bravery.

From Feira de Santana, Bahia, she disguised herself as a man to fight for Brazil's independence. The first woman to join the Armed Forces, she was awarded a heroine's medal by D. Pedro I.

Born in 1822, she was the first black Brazilian novelist. Her book "Úrsula" (1859) is a pioneering abolitionist novel, narrating a love triangle that challenged the slave system.

Brazilian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Cássia Eller was one of the greatest representatives of Brazilian rock music in the 1990s. She was bisexual and had a deep voice, known for hits such as "Malandragem" (1994), "O Segundo Sol" (1999) and "Palavras ao Vento" (1999).

Liniker, a trans singer and artist, made history in 2022 by winning the Latin Grammy for Best Album and Best Song in Portuguese. She broke taboos by being the first black transgender artist to occupy the 51st Chair of the Brazilian Academy of Culture.

A Brazilian biologist, educator and politician, she was a crucial figure in achieving the right to vote for women in Brazil. As a diplomat, she contributed to the inclusion of mentions of gender equality in the final text of the United Nations Charter.

Radio actress, writer and pioneering author of telenovelas. She was one of the most important authors of Brazilian telenovelas, creating the unforgettable "A Muralha" (1968), "Mulheres de Areia" (1973) and "A Viagem" (1994).

Xuxa Meneghel
