Briccola. An anonymous oak post that allowed the venetian waters to carve its destiny all through its life. And suddenly it surfaces in the hands of excited young Indian designers who try to creatively immortalize the spirit of Venice that is embodied by the oak in a table.

My most initial design thoughts dwelled in the romantic idea of Venice which has inspired millions through ages. But as I zoomed into the briccole posts that stand tall and intense, even as poetry and water endlessly meander around them, I am overcome by a newfound respect and admiration for this solemn and dignified character in the pretty postcard picture. Call it plain old wood or the secret diary of Venitian waters; I believed that the briccola post needed an afterlife that was as persuasive in its temperament as a table as it was as entity rooted in the waterbed.

The table is designed as an ode to Venice. It celebrates the resurfacing memories of the Venetian waters through the peeping logs of briccole. The singular log of briccole has a surface woven by the tides of time. These awe inspiring surfaces etched on oak by continual action of nature deserve exclusive attention .Hence the center table is limited to a mere log of rich textured briccole wood that appears to be floating within glass as a functional requirement.
