The fall issue of Untold Magazine was based on our contributor’s passions. The design was inspired by old-style tattoo imagery. People tattoo things that they are passionate about on their bodies, so this felt like a concept that could work. This style can be seen in the imagery of roses and hearts that appear throughout the issue.
I worked with contributors to come up with some visual ideas for their pieces before starting the design work. It was important to me that I represent their written work accurately with the imagery I chose. After reading through their pieces, I wrote down some imagery that stood out to me that could be fun to bring alive and then asked the contributors what kinds of things they were thinking about while writing their pieces.
