Uni Yr 3: Tilting Mechanism Gaming Chair

The Task: Design a Gaming chair imspired by a technical prototype for a 360° Immersive experiance

The Brief:
Based on an engineered proof of principle prototype design an interactive gaming seat suited to console, PC or VR gaming to bring additional in game realism to the gaming experiance. 

Intended for both adult and child users in a home, leisure context. Should be easy to set up and convinient to store. Making sure to design inclusivly for different gamer positioning and sizes. 

Produce an estimated initial production quantity of 1000 units per year. Using sustainable materials and manufacture methods.

Within the Minimalist direction, I looked into form, colours, materials and manufacture methods that were suited for the form and aesthetic I wish to inspire. Looking into frame style designs for chairs, soft flyknit padding, minimal style construction.

Looking into aluminium piping, sheets and mesh. Welding and bending, and soft cushioning materials such as suede and mesh fabrics.

Let out design:
Inspired from the visual boards, I started ideating on a possible design forms, looking into the effects of mesh, and aluminium piping to create a gaming chair with comfort adjustment for gaming position.

Final Design Direction:
The final design is made of aluminium tubing and mesh padding with push ratchet mechanisms to angle the back and leg supports to the users prefered comfort. Then turning this to a technical view of product component parts.

For the home comfort direction, I looked into soft and warm colorations combined with leather and fabric cushioning. Looking into different connotations for comfort, warm wood products and brass piping. 

Then investigating materials such as leather, brass and wood joints, in addition to manufacture processes related to the materials and the imapact on furniture design.

Let Out Design:
From this I ideated let out designs looking into how to get that home comfort assocated with the moving seat rig. Looking into traditional wood furniture forms and new more contemporary home form and aesthetics.

Final Design Direction:
This direction will be primarily made of Bent Plywood, and wood fixings. Using leather cushioning and velcro attachment to provide a warm aesthetic and luxuary comfort to the products design. Being simple to understand and disassemble for transportation and out of use storage.

gaming chair refinement + Technical Details:
Based on the Minimalist and home comfort designs, I took the aluminium tubing and ratcheted push mechanism from the minalist design and attached it to the plywood backing and leather custioning to refine the design and better suite the seating rig. Developing the technical measurements of the seat using anthropometric data for human seating postions and crating an expolded view based on it.

The Mochair
Named Mocha(ir) for The current market trend on warm colouration such as mocha. Taking a play on the word combining it with Gaming Chair. 

Our Mocha(ir) design is constructed of Aluminium tubing, connected to Bent Plywood seat, leg and back support, padded with Leather cushioning attached via velcro strips. Leg and Back support angles can be adjusted with the Ratcheted Push Mechanism. All sitting on our Propriatary interactive rocking mechanism.

Designed for a contemorary home setting. Being quick to set up and easy to disassemble for storage and transportation. Designed to be put away or left out. Suited to any social environment and any game.

With a Ratcheted Push mechanism the leg, seat and back rests can be adjusted to the gamer’s preferred position. This allows the gamer to feel comfortable and secure while using the immersive tilt mechanism.​​​​​​​
