A regény főhőse egy arab kisfiú, Momo, aki a társadalom perifériájára szorult négerek, arabok, zsidók mozgalmas, de nélkülözésekkel teli életét éli. Szüleit nem ismeri, egy idős zsidó asszony, Rosa mama neveli, aki megjárta a koncentrációs tábort is. Valaha prostituált volt Párizsban, majd amikor kiöregedett a szakmából, hasonló sorsú gyerekek ellátásából tartotta fenn magát. Momo hamar önállósághoz szokik. Lop, csal, vagányokkal és prostituáltakkal barátkozik, de Rosa mamához gyengéd szeretet fűzi. Émile Ajar's novel "The Life Before Us" in an art book adaptation

The main character of the novel is a young Arab boy named Momo, who lives a turbulent life on the fringes of society, surrounded by Africans, Arabs, and Jews, filled with hardships. He doesn't know his parents, and he is raised by an elderly Jewish woman named Rosa Mama, who survived a concentration camp. She used to be a prostitute in Paris, and when she retired from the profession, she supported herself by taking care of children in similar circumstances. Momo quickly adapts to independence. He steals, deceives, befriends tough individuals and prostitutes, but he maintains a tender affection for Rosa Mama. The strength of their bond becomes truly evident in the last days of the old woman's life when everyone comes together to make her final moments beautiful.

Technika

Kísérleteztem, sokmindent alkalmaztam, köztük: műhelyből összeszedett szemét, tépett papírok bescannelve, 3-4 linónyomat, ezüst és fekete spray, üvegszálas ragasztó, festés, cellux, digitális technika, betűnyomatok, és kézzel írt szövegeim tették még személyesebbé a történetet. Ötvöztem a manuálist a digitális technikával.

Technique

I experimented, I used many things, including: trash collected from the workshop, torn papers scanned, 3-4 lino prints, silver and black spray, fiberglass glue, painting, cellux, digital technology, letter prints, and my handwritten texts made the story even more personal. I combined the manual with the digital technique.

Az illusztrációk konkrét módon és akár elvont formában is kifejezik a könyv hangulatát. A kézzel írott részeket főleg akkor alkalmaztam, ha Momo az őszinte és nyers véleményét fejezi ki, ilyenkor pedig próbáltam minél gyorsabban és egyszerűbb stílusban leírni a mondatokat. Igyekeztem a legfrappánsabb részeket kiemelni a könyvből. Az összeollózott betűk pedig kifejezik a játékos, egyszerű, gyermeki felfogást, amivel Momo gondolkodott. A könyv utolsó oldalán szándékosan kevesebb a motívum, az oldal aljára pedig tettem 3 ujjlenyomatot, mint egy “…”, ami egy utalás arra, hogy történet folytatódik.

A 48 oldalon a regény első 20 oldalát dolgoztam fel, azaz a történet 1/5-ét. A teljes könyvet nem is szerettem volna ennyire tömören átadni. Így a történet is egy olyan szálon fut, ami könnyebben értelmezhető.

The illustrations express the mood of the book both in a concrete and abstract manner. I mainly used handwritten parts when Momo expresses his sincere and raw opinions, aiming to quickly and simply describe the sentences in such instances. I tried to highlight the most striking parts of the book. The cut-out letters convey a playful, simple, childlike perspective through which Momo thought. On the last page of the book, there are intentionally fewer motifs, and at the bottom, I added 3 fingerprints, like "...", which is a reference to the idea that the story continues.

Within the 48 pages, I covered the first 20 pages of the novel, which represents 1/5 of the story. I didn't want to condense the entire book so much. Therefore, the story unfolds along a thread that is more easily understandable.
