Lions Bay Coffee Company 1lb Gusseted Bag
The client wanted a simple, clean design for a one-pound bag of their ethically sourced and freshly roasted artisan coffee. Their brief suggested a white glossy bag with their logo being prominently displayed along with some blank space for their particular roast (and a barcode on the back). They also allowed for the bag to take inspiration from the logo, which itself is based on the Lions mountains near the town of Lions Bay, BC.
Thus, I decided to use the motif of a simplified version of the Lions (which I created based on one of the photos they provided). I had the mountains displayed such that they encompassed the perimeter of the bag without getting in the way of either the text or the logo. The overall intended effect was to make the maw of the Lions open wide for some high-quality, humane and sustainable coffee. I also used a single non-black color throughout the bag (with variations in tint both to keep the gusset text legible and to create aesthetic variety); since the bag design was meant to be a starting point for other bags within the brand, I decided that each blend or roast would have its own distinct yet closely related color.
RESOURCES CITED: As stated above, the illustration for the mountains was based on one of the photos the project owner provided for reference.
TYPEFACES USED: This design uses Clarendon and Bank Gothic as they are roughly the same fonts as in the logo (as per client request). Bank Gothic is used for headings and special emphasis, while Clarendon Light is used for text along with Bold for in-text emphasis.
