Saudade
"Saudade is a type of nostalgia and melancholy associated with a strong appreciation for the past, contemplation of transience, and the beauty of decay, perceived with subtle pride and joy, in a positive manner."
However, why saudade? I feel strongly emotionally connected to Portugal; I had the opportunity to spend six months there on a academic exchange and met many wonderful people. I really like the Portuguese way of life and their character.
Below is the series of photographs I took during my most recent trip to Portugal. My first longer stay there since the exchange.
The idea was to recreate colour and grain of a film, using Lightroom and little overexposition.
Most of the shots are vertical, due to the characteristics of the lens I used, it's perfect for these tight snapshots of the streets.
Visit to Feira de Ladra - Thieves market - allowed me to capture some more details and almost maximalist compositions of items being sold.
But Sigma 56mm excels the most at shooting portraits, which of course I did.
As you can see on the photography above I managed to capture some landscapes, beaches, rocks and sea.
Seaside resorts in winter are filled with the atmosphere of anticipation for the upcoming holiday season, and it was no different in Lagos.
I have always liked the atmosphere in ports and other places centered around work, filled with delivery trucks and various types of machinery.
But let's go back to Lisbon.
This housing estate is located by the road leading south from Lisbon, among other directions towards Lagos.
Thank you for taking the time to view my album. Most likely, I will return to the topic of Portugal, but I wouldn't want this project to be too lengthy.
