Tie Me Up
A second hand upcycled skirt and top set made out of thrifted neck ties.
I began this process with 21 thrifted ties. I used 13 for the skirt and 6 for the matching top. I began this process by cutting all of the ties to 15.25'' and did a straight stich up all the conjoint sides repeating 12 times until they could wrap fully around my waist. I attached the zipper in the same way.
I then seam ripped the last tie open to use as the waist band. I folded it around the body of the skirt and topstitched it down. Not pictured is the hand sew hook and bar that was attached to conjoin the waistband when zipped.
For the top I layered 3 ties together to form a triangle shape and cut off the long end of the smaller triangle pieces to use as the under-bust tie. I then straight stitched them together in the same method as the skirt. I then repeated for the other side. I attached the 2 sides together again using a straight stich and included the cut off pieces sandwiched between the 2 pieces.
Finaly, I topstitched the waist under-bust band between the ties to ensure a more secure fit and then the top was completed.
These are the concept sketches and measurements to fit my proportions.
