For more than 30 years, Thomas E. Tate has functioned as the owner and president of Tate Builders, Inc., a builder of custom homes on Martha’s Vineyard. Under Thomas Tate’s leadership, Tate Builders has been recognized by Martha’s Vineyard Magazine as Best Builder on the Vineyard.
Every year, readers of Martha’s Vineyard Magazine are encouraged to vote for their favorite stores, restaurants, fishing spots, and various other categories relating to island life. The 2013 issue declared State Beach as the island’s most popular beach, and several categories involved water sports or activities related to the beach. Sengekontacket Pond in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs was voted the best place to kayak on the island, while Dick’s Bait & Tackle edged Coop’s Bait & Tackle as the island’s preferred tackle shop. Additional categories in the 2013 issue included best fitness center, won by the local YMCA, and best nature walk, found at the Cedar Tree Neck Sanctuary in West Tisbury.
