MOCK UPS
FIRST HYDROPONIC PROPAGATION ATTEMPT
I tried to propagate my plant but the roots took to long to grow so I did more research on hydroponic plants and then I saw that you can use a plant that has been growing in soil. It took 20 days for the roots to grow this far.
It took 42 days for the roots to grow this far.
SECOND HYDROPONIC ATTEMPT
So I got my plants and gently washed the soil of off the roots. I then placed the roots in nutrient water.
PROCESS PHOTOS
Hand fabricating this was much more difficult and took a lot more time than laser cutting it, but unfortunately the laser cutter at university was broken so I had no other option. I tried my best to make the final prototype look like it was laser cut by giving it a puzzle like pattern and hinges.
My trial and errors trying to figure out how to cut the hinges. I eventually figured it out, number 6 and 7 worked the best. I realized that I shouldn't cut to deep into the wood and not to close to each cut.
ONE OF MY HINGES BROKE. I FIXED IT WITH A WOOD PIECE
One of the hinges that I made broke because the wood bend a bit and then it got fragile. I then just glued a piece of wood on the area that broke to make it stronger.
3D PRINTED PART
I 3D printed a small lip to help keep my small tubes stabilized.
SPRAY PAINT PROCESS
After I assembled my BloomBox I started prepping it for spray-paint. I first sanded the wood and then I spray painted it with a primer. After the primer dried I spray painted it with a black chalk paint.
I struggled a lot with the chalk spray paint. It was very patchy, so I just used a lot of spray paint to make it look better.
FINAL PROTOTYPE
REFLECTION
Overall I think that this project was a success. I did have a few obstacles like finding out the laser cutter is broken only a few days before its due, accidently braking one of my hinges, struggling with the spray paint and struggling with the magnets that keeps the doors shut. But despite all of that I think the BloomBox turned out great.
