Jugoplastika plastic sandals homage

"Trika - traka" plastic beach sandals were a popular shoe in the 70s and 80s in former Jugoslavija. The Jugoplastika company of Split used to manufacture a pair a minute and would anually issue over two million pairs.
At the time they cost 40 dinars which would now equal 5,30 euros. Gucci now manufactures very similar examples that go for about 500 dollars.
The metal clasp was under natural influence of the ocean so it would rust and that was when you knew it was time for a new pair. It was easy to tell who wore them regularly because the feet would tan in the pattern of the sandal.
Very few people own them today and there is a pair of these sandals in the
Ethnographic museum of the city of Split in the museums collection of Adriatic folkwear. They are exhibited under the name "plastic sandals manufactured in the Jugoplastika factory".
