I was invited by Re-Levant, a design studio from Tel Aviv, to design a poster displaying the words “re-Levant” or simply “re”. The name Re-Levant wants to play with words to suggest a re-vision, a re-design, of the Levant area: the eastern mediterranean region currently including Israel, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus and part of Turkey.
Provoked by a map showing the expansion of the state of Israel over the last 7 decades, here the prefix ‘re’ has expanded to occupy almost the entire surface of the paper. What is left is consequently fractured, isolated, overpowered. In this context the prefix “re” urges an immediate re-evaluation, a re-envisioning and a fundamental redressal of an unjust situation.
7 to 9 August 2014, the poster was exhibited at the Re-Levant group exhibition, in Tel-Aviv.
