The XX Band - Vinyl Cover
I designed this completed vinyl cover for my COMD-224 Typographic Grids & Systems class
Design choices:
I chose this band because I have liked their songs for a while now and it is within my favourite genres indie, electronic and alternative.
Production:
In terms of my vinyl covers, it took a while for me to make something that I felt represented the band. I wanted to challenge myself to make the typography speak more than my imagery. The last cover iteration is the one I revisited to make it as it appears now. I wanted it to also be used as my lyric book cover. I felt myself wanting to keep going back over all of my concepts, but I decided I was spending way too much time revising my first that I would have to leave the others as is. I really enjoyed this project.
Typefaces used:
Capitolium 2 - Weights: bold, regular, bold italic, italic (used for most of the text)
Abril Fatface - Weights: regular (used for “The” on the main cover that I made)
For the very first iterations, I used many typefaces present in different covers:
Parisine Plus Std Sombre - Weights: bold
Aviano Future - Weights: bold (used for “XX”)
Pentz - Weights: regular
Galvji - Weights: bold
New Nord Extended - Weights: bold (used for “XX”)
These were my rough initial vinyl cover concepts, however, I wanted to challenge myself to let the type speak more than imagery.
I revise the second to last vinyl cover from above to turn it into this:
I then made three final mock ups to see what it would look like actualized into its form
