Behold the Future: Utopian Character Design
The brief for this project was to design and style a character for a Dystopian and Utopian Future. Designing their immediate environment for each potential future.
The deliverables include 2 Character Design sheets with a full biography and backstory of your character. 2 Final renderings of their immediate environment. 2 Animated Instagram stories using the Multi-Plane/Parallax motion technique. One of the animations must feature your character in their dystopian future environment, and the other must feature your character in their utopian future environment. 1 Digital Design Document including research, development and realisation. 1 Physical notebook including concept drawings, sketching, thoughts, scamps etc. My aim for this assignment is to create a unique character in a utopian setting. I want to create something new I haven’t tried before in hopes of expanding my knowledge and getting out of my comfort zone.

Final Environment
I am pleased with the final outcome of this project. I love displaying both Utopian and Dystopian imagery beside each other. They both contrast while also compliment each other. The animation went very smoothly too. I enjoyed working on this project, however, if I were to do it again I would like to make sure I’m familiar with animation. This was an aspect I struggled with as it’s not something I’ve worked with much. I decided to use the Photoshop animation feature to create this as I knew how to work that software. Although I made it in the end, this process would have been much quicker if I knew how to work it beforehand. Overall, I am really happy with how my characters, environments and animations turned out. I look forward to creating more projects like this in the future.
