Using creative means, open a conversation on ‘controversial art’. What does it mean to you,
and what artists, movements, works, etc. fit into your definition of it? Research and analyse the
inspirations, contexts, and public opinion/discourse of the artist, movement, or work you choose.
Does the controversy behind it take away from our enjoyment?
Do we have a moral obligation for censorship?
RESPONSE
Deciding on using Eric Gill as the topic of my book, I utilised his most famous work,
the font Gill Sans to make a book disucssing the controversies surrounding him and his work.
I utilise a distinct colour palette that heavily contrasts the subject matter, as well as paper cutting
throughout most pages that give the reader a peak at the dark contexts behind some of his works
through the use of holes in the pages that show snippets of his works and words from his private diaries.
