Visual Identity - Student Work (2011 Loerie Finalist)
Our cultures, histories and geographies are what make us unique, but what if we were all finally part of a unit - if we all had equal opportunities, equal rights, equal lives. I considered the concept of what would happen if the entire world was to become a single unit, and explored the topic from the government’s point of view. I imagined a constructed society where citizens would be expected to set aside their individuality in order for the system to work. The name of this new nation - Neumundo - has ‘Neu-’ standing for ‘neutral’ or ‘new’, and ‘-mundo’, meaning ‘world’.
I adhered to the systems that already work in today’s world (for example currency), because this government encourages that which is standard. The design uses single, bright, flat colours whilst praising everything that makes Neumundo successful, with the aim of manipulating its citizens. A neutral typeface was chosen along with standard paper sizes and right angles. Neumundo has four official languages.
