Chicen Itza was a large city built by the Maya people located in Yucatan State, Mexico. It was a sophisticated urban center for the Maya Empire from AD 750-1200. The Temple of Kukulcan, or the Pyramid, the main structure on the site, demonstrates the accuracy and importance of Maya astronomy. Nearby, the Ball Court had ritualistic implications.
