Shadow Play Lantern is a unique children’s toy which has different variations in Asian cultures. Usually made from paper, it employs shadow puppetry - an ancient form of storytelling which uses a flat articulated cut-out figure-shelf between a source of light and a translucent screen.
Phung An Artisan is a Vietnam-based design studio. They are passionate about creating contemporary yet sustainable home décor products with the helping hands of local artisans. In 2023, after 3 months of R&D and limited production, Phung An Artisan had flourishingly reimagined the humble paper lantern and transformed it into a high-end home décor piece.
My job was to study the lantern's body parts, functions and aesthetics in order to produce a comparable packaging design that enhanced the end users’ unboxing experience.
