     The petrified history of the earth     Petrified Forest National Park is an American national park in northeastern Arizona. Named for its large reserves of petrified wood, the park covers an area of approximately 346 square miles (900 square kilometers) and includes semi-desert scrub steppe as well as highly eroded and colorful badlands.
