Inktober 2023 - Personal Project
Hi - we are Charbi, a wife and husband team of creatives / artists / designers / business owners. Last year we decided to participate in the Inktober Challenge, but with our own little twist on it. We let ChatGPT help us come up with some interesting prompts and made a piece of art every day about the same prompt for every day in October 2023.

The rules:
- We both paint the same prompt
- We do not brainstorm together
- We do not look at each other work until we ourselves are finished
- The painting needs to be done on the day itself

Below all the artwork; left is mine (Barbra) and right is Charli's - enjoy!

The prompts:
1. Celestial Picnic

Inktober Day 1 - Celestial Picnic
The first day we started super motivated and both spend a few hours on our painting.

Charli's musings: I've made a few pieces before where I'd use the red hooded figure at the start and end of a new sketchbook, so I figured I'd focus on using the red hooded figure as my central character behind my inktober pieces. The first few days started enthusiastically, however, as the days progressed it became increasingly more challenging to put more time into each piece. This is reflected in the quality of the finish. There were definitely some days where I just wanted to be done.
Inktober Day 2 - Enchanted Garden
Inktober Day 3 - Marketplace Magic
After I saw Charli use the same character in day 2, it inspired me to do the same. Funnily enough we came up with a similar concept where we used each other characters for the first time.

Charli's Musings: I love how our pieces turned out. It was a pure coincidence that we both had a purple witch character. Inadvertently, this became the two central character behind our inktober challenge.
Inktober Day 4 - Nature's Spell
Time management starts becoming a bit more challenging, so we start to manage the scope better and trying to tell a story with more simple concepts.
Inktober Day 5 - Whimsical Wildlife
Inktober Day 6 - Shadowed Realities
My personal favourite, both of us start to find our style and story through this journey. It is funny how we with a similar concept tell a different story here - where the witch really is a queen and the red hooded guy a monster.
Inktober Day 7 - Curious Artefacts
Charli's Musings: I love the way the colors turned out. Something mysterious and enimatic.
Inktober Day 8 - Mechanical Menagerie
Barbra: This was a day where I struggled. I felt uninspired after a busy weekend day full of activities that left me with very little energy for creative thought.
Inktober Day 9 - Lost and Found
Simpler concept to be able to get something on the paper. Still happy how the hands turned out. Even if it's not perfect - it's kind of cool we are coming up with these original ideas without looking at references.
Inktober Day 10 - Sorcerer's Library
Barbra: Here I had more energy and it shows; a painting with a lot more colors that feels more vibrant and energetic.
Inktober Day 11 - Time Traveler's Journal
Inktober Day 12 - Lost in Translation
A bit of a different interpretation for the both of us, which is fun to see. Can you guess what the mirror says?

Charli's Musings: This was my way of being funny. Bringing flowers instead of flour. You'll start to see a lot of the quality declining here as it started to get more tiring.
Solution: Enchanted Mirror
Inktober Day 13 - Teatime Tales
Barbra: This one I found fun to do - I wanted to incorporate that magical feeling so I chose to play with the sizes. We both only realized afterwards that we both forgot the teapot handle, so feel free to imagine it haha.
Inktober Day 14 - Dreamlike Portraits
Inktober Day 15 - Dreamy Book Nook
Inktober Day 16 - Enchanted Desserts
Inktober Day 17 - Imaginary Travel
Inktober Day 18 - Technicolor Realms
Charli's Musings: I love the rainbow technicolor finish I had. Quite different from how Barbra went about it. I love the two concepts we had.
Inktober Day 19 - Cultural Mythos
Inktober Day 20 - SteamPunk Explorations
Inktober Day 21 - Abstract Realms
Inktober Day 22 - Cosmic Wanderer
Charli's Musings: This was another one that I believe finished well for me. I like the ambience of the way I capture the stars. The purple witch however is a more fun concept in my mind.
Inktober Day 23 - Stealth and Shadows
Inktober Day 24 - Hidden Doorways
Inktober Day 25 - Secret Gardens
A similar concept again, to both of our surprise.
Inktober Day 26 - Fairy Tale Twist
Inktober Day 27 - Fantasy Friends
Barbra: Another day where my energy levels where really low. A lack of time stressed me out and made it so I had very little ideas. I decided here to reduce the scope of the Inktober projects for a few days to recover a bit of energy again.
Inktober Day 28 - Mysthical Typography
Barbra: Working with only pencil en pens was a lot quicker than making a full painting. I've been interested in lettering for a while now and it was fun to explore this a bit in this challenge.

Charli's Musings: I stopped working with Gouache paint at this point and just used alcohol markers to finish my pieces faster. I don't like the finish as much but I think it allowed me to keep showing up still.
Inktober Day 29 - Mythical Fusion
Inktober Day 30 - Magical Transportation
Inktober Day 31 - Halloween
We enjoyed this challenge although that is what it was - a challenge! Working with time constraints and limited amount of energy after a days work was definitely not easy. But with that we got out of our comfort zone and learnt quite a bit. On certain days where we felt exhausted, it is reflected in our work. But despite that, we still got ourself to the drawing board and came up with an original idea even is the execution wasn't always perfect.

Also what was an unplanned accident, is that after 3 paintings or so, we started to tell a story with the characters we invented. And somehow the artwork of Charli and myself works well together.

Which ones are your favourite paintings?

Thank you for watching until the end! Cheers!
