PosterZine - Abu lHadid

Abu lHadid Posterzine + Talk
This is an article I've written about an old calligrapher from the street I was raised in, Aisha Bakkar, Beirut. It is available online as well as in print formats currently published and sold by Khabar Keslan, it can be purchased at any book fairs they are participating in, and read online here.

The article discusses design culture as a whole in Lebanon, and delves into how our graphic design curriculums educate us about western design culture, and in turn educating us to stray away from real rich and local design realities. Calligraphers painting signs and drawing beautiful letters and typographic compositions onto book covers and walls, it is the story of how we as graduates of 3 year university programs have come to replace laborers carrying decades of design knowledge and culture as the local craftsmen of type, told through the eyes of one of the most legendary calligraphers Beirut has ever known.

Print Specifications

The article was converted into a posterzine print format wherein the entire read content of it could be flipped through almost like a small booklet magazine, and then the final page on the backside could be seen as one large poster that can be hung up on the wall after the article's been read and finished
Since its publication, I have given 2 talks about the zine and it has sold over 200 copies around the US, England, Egypt, and Lebanon.
