Map, Wayfinding and Event Design - RSM

The primary goal of event signage and wayfinding systems is to enhance visitors’ experiences and ensure seamless navigation through an event.

This was an awards ceremony event celebrating students’ achievements in STEM projects, and needed bright, bold signage with a fun, celebratory theme.

I created a bold and eye-catching event invite to set the theme for the event and from there, designed a flyer and a map. My goal for the map was to provide an overview of the venue layout, highlighting key attractions and event stations. Utilizing the brand color palette, I created a key to make different areas easy to find at a glance. Whether seeking out a specific area or exploring through the venue, I wanted this map to ensure visitors didn’t lose their way.
Each station sign uses the brand font and colors as well as the same design elements as the map and invite to create a cohesive theme throughout the event. My goal was to use the visual consistency not only to add to the aesthetic appeal, but also to help orient attendees and reinforce the event's overall theme of fun and celebration.
Designing T-shirts inspired by student artwork was another component of this project. This involved translating the students' illustrations into vector art and helping bring them to life using the brand colors.
This event involved a scavenger hunt around the city of Redmond, WA, with stops at various businesses around the city. Because the scavenger hunt covered a fairly large area, it was paramount that the map I designed be as straightforward and easy to understand as possible. As I got started on the layout, I thought of the target audience; children and their families. I wanted to be sure each attendee could explore the area confidently and complete the scavenger hunt with ease. The first step was creating a 3D rendering of the neighborhood and putting a marker at each business’s location. I used the back of the flyer to put each business’s logo with a number corresponding to its location on the map. There is also a space for the stamp each participant would receive for visiting each location. Through the color palette and type, I wanted this piece to serve as an extension of the brand to make it recognizable within the community.
