This illustration was inspired by the art of origami and the Japanese tradition of hand-made paper. Research into real Shinto shrines was used to create aesthetically accurate and culturally sensitive depictions of the features of these beautiful structures.

Basic forms were created in Adobe Illustrator by using the pen tool to draw shapes on an isometric grid. Each fully constructed object was then exported individually to Photoshop to have textures and shading applied. The objects were saved as PNG files, then layered on top of each other to recreate the original composition.
