I am interested in the architecture of an enlightened being. Inspired by Sufism (Islamic mysticism), I am drawn toward representations of feminine divinity. My search is driven by both a critique of the patriarchal nature of monotheistic faiths as well as a desire to express a vision for spiritual space. While my first explorations of feminine divinity resulted in a series of portraits of angels (known as #ALAAMA), this new body of work portrays the angel as an architectural specimen. Moving from aerosol paint to digital modelling and ink illustration, the goal of my process is to use the allegory of the architecture of an enlightened being to discover strategies for design and representation of spiritually-charged spaces.
