Entre los Hilos de un Chinchorro
Illustration created for the national competition "IV Salón de la Cultura B.O.D. Contrastes de Venezuela"
(IV Hall of Culture B.O.D. Contrasts of Venezuela)

Winner in the category "Gente" (People).
Maracaibo, Venezuela, 2015.

"Each Venezuelan is like a thread, united powerfully and contrasted in our great variety; we form our country like a hammock. Like a child resting on the soft threads, each one feels the hammock as the warmth of a mother." - Reynaldo Duque, 2015.

In every nuance, the history and vitality of our land are woven, creating a palette of emotions that transcends the canvas and captures the very essence of our beautiful homeland, Venezuela.

The vibrant colors of orange and red embody the warmth that pulsates in the heart of every Venezuelan, reflecting the glow of the golden sun over Maracaibo and paying tribute to a culture that will endure forever.

The blue tones evoke the serene waters of Lake Maracaibo, the astonishingly clear sky that characterizes our perpetual summer, and tue embrace of the Caribbean Sea that caresses the peaceful coasts of Venezuela.

Participating in this competition for the first time has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It's not just about hoping to win but about the joy of being selected among the top 50 and having the opportunity to share my artwork with others. My inspiration comes from the deep connection we share as Venezuelans, reflected in the structure of a 'chinchorro.' In the center, the Wayúu child looks at us with curious eyes, eternally reminding us of our indigenous roots.

The colors in my artwork are strategically chosen: opposites on the color wheel represent the contrasting yet beautiful Caribbean. The orange tones evoke fire and sun, while the blue reflects the magnificence of our sea. This illustration is not only a tribute to our identity but also a reminder of the richness of our culture and the beauty that emanates from it.
I would like to express my deep gratitude to everyone for turning this experience into a truly memorable moment. To my father, Peter, I appreciate his unwavering belief in me and constant support throughout this project. To my cousin Lermagd, who accompanied me during those weeks of seclusion, contributing with his creativity and generating inspiring ideas. I also want to thank my dear friend Daniel, whose collaboration was essential in shaping and structuring my thoughts. Each of you has left an indelible mark on this journey, and your help has been invaluable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
