Along the south coast of Madeira.

Madeiran sunset, facing south from Praia de Calheta. Little light left but enough to silhouette the tree against the dying rays of the sun.
Bee investigating a Bird of Paradise flower at the Funchal Botanical Gardens. 120mm focal length so I didn't have to be close, f5 for a shallow depth of field, 1/250s because neither flower or bee were stationary and ISO64 so I could crop in afterwards.
More insect action at the Botanical Gardens.  Wide aperture to get shallow depth of field, 1/2000s due to rapid movement and ISO up to 1/1000s. Some cropping; the insect is one third up and one third in.
Waterfront at Paul do Mar.  The street one block in is rather twee and bijou but this side makes a more interesting view.  Cropped from a 120mm 3:2 image; 1/125s was fast enough to catch the wave.
Valley above Serrado in the west of Madeira.
Dolphin breaching near the catamaran Seaborn.  200mm focal length (compromise - too long only shows a small part of the water surface and too short means the animal is a small part of the picture), f5.3 to reduce the depth of field and allow for a shutter speed of 1/2500s whilst keeping the ISO right down.
Walking along the Levada Nova near Tabua.  Late afternoon sun caught through the trees and an aperture of f22 to diffract the light.
Street art in Zona Velha. Many doors and gates in the area have been painted in a whole variety of styles.  The challenge is to show how they are part of an active neighbourhood and not just pictures.
