Humans communicate by using codes, which are the vehicles for the transmission of meaning. Colour is a code and in its symbolic value exhibit many properties. Different cultures use different colour codes to transmit meaning. Means of transmitting in proto cultures were usually textile and fabrics. Paintings are abstractions of national costumes which maintain a symbolic colour value. Therefore, the paintings carry the code.
