Photo Series: The Old Grand Traverse Light

"Old Traverse Light": This is the old lighthouse that used to serve the Manitou passage, where Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay meet. Today, the area is served by a lighted steel tower with dayboards. The original lighthouse and foghorn building have since been converted to a museum within the Leelanau State Park. These photos were taken shortly before winter break, hence the Christmas Wreaths in the windows of the Keeper's Quarters. Unfortunately, when I visited, the lighthouse museum was closed.
"Sunset Synchronicities": This photo was taken at the beach just outside the lighthouse. Well, I wouldn't call it a beach, it's pretty rocky. Anyway, the way the sun reflecting off the water and the rocks was amazing, and I had to capture it.
"The Overlook of Peace": This photo was taken on the trail leading from the lighthouse to the beach.
"Through the Lens of Nature": I thought it was cool how this fallen tree on the beach made for great framing.

Photographer's Note:
Aside for being such a beautiful place, there is a lot of really cool history behind it. If you are ever in northwestern Michigan (Lower Peninsula), I highly recommend checking it out. (Just don't go in the winter, it's cold!)

The historic lighthouse, museum, and the nearby foghorn building are operated and maintained by the Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum organization
