I recently made some artwork for Muntons Brewery who specialise in home brew beer kits. I was a guest artist for a label which will be featured on one of their "Signature Series" kits. Its going to be a black lager, The brief was to come up with a name and artwork to go with it. Here are my first 2 rough designs I made for them. I straight away had the idea for the outline of a man's body with the soul bursting out of his mouth with the name black soul. I used oil pastels to draw the mans body and make the texture for the soul and background. I then decided to do a version with the soul not looking quite so bleak.
Then I set about making a font for the title, I went for a metallic 3d effect that looked like light was hitting it in different directions.
The only amend they initially gave me was to make it look less like the man's body was throwing up the soul. I also really didn't like the face of the soul I had put together so went in for a big round of refinement all round. I decided to make it look more like the soul was emanating from the heart and brain so added those in. I added loads more detail to the soul and rejigged things a little to better use the space and make the title clearer by taking away anything too busy from behind it.
Then finally I had a last minute name change request to "Dark Soul". And this was the final product and that was delivered to the client.
