Too many duck-faces, not enough Character
Oxford Dictionaries name it the word of the year, Justin Bieber has his own App for that and the Pope’s first try went viral immediately.
We figured it was about time to counter the current craze of blurry duck faces and underexposed narcism with some true character. So we asked you for your help: As an Open Call for Entries, Pictoplasma invited international designers, illustrators and artists to submit a self-portrait of their character for the big upcoming anniversary exhibition, scheduled to take place April 30 - May 11 2014 in the context of the 10th Pictoplasma Berlin Festival. Celebrating a decade of outstanding character-driven art, we pay tribute to the characters themselves: with a vast group-show, presenting numerous portraits of characters that have shaped and challenged our project during the past years.
Within this exhibition, a central installation will feature the stunning, new generation of visual characters, captured in today’s media equivalent of the rather classical portrait format: the “Selfie”! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selfie
Our humble call for entries seems to have opened the floodgates of character exhibitionism, and left us with MORE THAN 2500+ ENTRIES by a vast, international network of artists, designers and illustrators.
The best submissions will be presented as an installation in the context of the central 10th Pictoplasma Festival exhibition - THE PICTOPLASMA PORTRAIT GALLERY - inviting all international festival and conference attendees and the broad general public.
