HELPING PEOPLE learn managerial skills through a sim-type game is quite the honorable mission. It isn't a sexy or tantalizing entertainment, at a glance, but judging the product on such criteria would make one miss the point entirely. In fact, judging usually goes hand in hand with misunderstanding.

Business and management courses are sometimes hindered by a lack of concrete simulations and exercices when trying to teach future leaders and entrepreneurs how to deal with human resources. And since, you know, employees, suppliers and partners are such a huge element of any successful business, why should we care?
Yeah...

Well, the guys at Affordance Studio do care. And that's what made them create this "creative agency educative sim-game". You get to build your own hiring process (including medias and associations where the job ad will be displayed, description of skills needed for said job, interview questions, etc.), give people a raise (and deal with your staff's jealous reactions to someone actually getting one), push employees into overtime to get the job done in time, fire incompetent slackers, deal with maternity leave, etc. Your time and budget are limited and your team moves on to another available project, depending on your successes or failures.

Sounds interesting? You bet.

The project did catch my attention and, when Affordance's Artistic Director approached me, I got a solid idea of what I would do to give the game a smooth and melodic sound design. I also composed and produced a soundtrack reminiscent of the SNES' Sim City, along with some melodic influences straight out of Chrono Trigger. Also, since Gérez !/Human Resources is a sim game, I remembered some of the ambient piano tracks out of the original The Sims.

Here's the "while-playing-a-project-and-or-mission" song. The first couple minutes are a lenghty buildup that breaks down into a melodic piano/vibraphone bridge, leading to a 20 seconds looping conclusion that's worth the trip, if I may say so myself.

Enjoy!
