Neuralink, a brain-chip start-up by the billionaire Elon Musk, successfully implanted the first brain-chip in a human patient on sunday. Elon Musk on the social media platform, X, said, “Initial results show promising neuron spike detection,” on monday.

The start-up got permission last year from the U.S Food and Drug Administration to conduct its first train on humans. Neuralink also cleared the human trials for paralysis patients. The primary motto of neuralink is to study the interface that will help the paralysis patients to control the devices with their thoughts.

The human patient who got the first implant on Sunday is recovering well, said billionaire Elon Musk on monday. He said, “Initial results show promising neuron spike detection.” “Telepathy” would be the first product of Neuralink, said Elon Musk.


Spikes refers to the activity of neurons, cells that use electrical and chemical signals to send information to the brain and the body. This study uses a robot to place a brain computer interface (BCI) implant in a part of the brain that controls the intention to move and can enable patients to control the cursor or keyboard of the computer with only thoughts.

Neuralink was earlier fined for violating the rules of the US Department of Transportation (DoT) for the use of hazardous material. DoT investigators found out that the company has not registered for the hazardous material used by them during their inspection of the company’s facilities in Texas and California.

They also discovered the improper packaging of these hazardous materials as well as the inclusion of flammable liquid Xylene, which causes dizziness, headache, loss of muscles, or even death. The company still hasn’t given a reply to these reports.
